Certainly one of the greatest of the British monarchs. I am proud to possess an Edward VII coronation medal in its original case, my small way of honouring His Imperial Majesty.
When [Albert] Edward was Prince of Wales, and his mother seemed more or less permanent, many people probably had trouble imagining him as King. Boy did he prove them wrong! I'm sure the same will be true of Charles III.
I am a libertarian, and I really hate democracy because of his inherentily lack of economic freedom. Did you ever read any essay by Hans Hermann Hoppe?
I'll believe the "George VII" story if it is officially proclaimed upon his accession and not one moment before. I think and hope that the suggestion that he would prefer to be "George VII" was a mere speculative comment that got blown out of proportion by commentators.
Personally I fervently hope he will be "Charles III." There have been enough Georges for awhile, and I would like to see continuity with the pre-1688 monarchy emphasized. Since I revere Charles I as a martyr and admire Charles II as skillful and merry monarch, I don't accept the oft-repeated claim that the name of Charles has not brought credit to the monarchy.
King Edward like we've never seen him before. An emperor in all his magnificence and blazing glory.
ReplyDeleteSuperb. Splendid. Sublime.
ReplyDeleteThis is no impostor king! No actor could be this convincing. This is the real deal.

ReplyDeleteNot bad for a man who smoked 22 cigarettes and 12 cigars a day. And yet physically statuesque.
ReplyDeleteOld Bertie was the quintessential king alright. And the finest of our Edwards.

ReplyDeleteI think he will not be using that name...

They don't make them like Bertie anymore, do they.
ReplyDeleteI'd be happiest if we could skip Charles. A divorced adulterer married to a divorcee does not belong on the throne.
