The Magic of Monarchy
So much for the theory that monarchists are dying off at an accelerating pace and the future belongs to some vague shiny republic. The fact of the matter is monarchists are born every minute, it is the futile task of every republican to indoctrinate them into some corrective educational program before they become the future. Judging from this photo, they might want to hurry!

Cool photo. You can see the absolute joy on the face of the little girl holding the letter!

ReplyDeleteIt seems:
Australians think the Commonwealth is more valuable than any other member country surveyed;
We associate it with the Queen more than any other country surveyed - so it seems the figures in this poll are shaped in part by our republican debate (note higher wish to leave Commonwealth in Australia)
We Aussies seem to think that the Commonwealth is basically a Queen-based reunion sporting competition that we beat everyone else in, and it's good for our ego
We want the Royals to keep heading it more than any other country, instead of greasy third world presidents-for-life (half of Australians want Charles or William to be next head of the Commonwealth after the Queen's reign - more than any other country)
Sound!

How adorable! Who wouldn't love a letter and photo from the Queen? Even the staunchest of Republicans would feel a warm glow.
