  1. Love the Toronto Scots. It's unusual for the Colonel-in-Chief to visit two of his regiments simultaneously - it means he has to chose which ceremonial uniform he is going to wear, to prefer one regiment over the other.

In this case, the mild slight to the Toronto Scots of being inspected by the Colonel-in-Chief of the RRC, even though he is their Colonel-in-Chief as well. I think the Queen Mother was the C-in-C of the Toronto Scots, so the Prince of Wales has been C-in-C of the RRC longer, hence, I would presume, the choice.

  3. HRH and others of the Royal Family are only able to visit when invited by the government and because of the less-than-enthusiastic-nature of the governments of Canada in the past twenty years he was last able to be formally with his regiments in 1991. Thus the need to 'bunch up'. Whilst in Toronto this time he was asked by a vet to 'come more often' to which the Prince replied: 'I will, if I'm invited'.
The choice of uniform is according to precedence in the 'order of battle' and, in this case, the Royal Regiment of Canada has seniority.
I know that HRH is deeply attached to all of his regiments and is frequently briefed by them. There is a strong attachment there that is almost 'unknown' by most and is certainly ignored by the media.
