Standing in Potters Fields Park with fellow monarchists to watch the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the 3rd of June, yours truly noticed a boat with a Union Jack accompanied by a flag of the Portuguese “republic.”

Yours truly does not know the reason for this flag flying from a vessel in the pageant, but there could be a number of reasons.
One reason could be the age old alliance between Portugal and Great Britain. The Royal Navy even escorted the Portuguese Royal Court to Brazil when it fled Napoleon. Of course, then the flag that should have flown is this one:
This would perhaps have been too controversial for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. There could of course be other reasons for the flag in the pageant as well.
Well, the flag was not exactly the blue and white, but the plain white with the national coat of arms. Anyway, I feel proud that the Portuguese were present the 3rd of June in London. This alliance will last forever and, by the way, I've seen some blue and white flags during the Jubilee. See this:
