Needless to say, The Monarchist deeply detests the enemies of honour and distinction wherever they reside - so thankfully Helen Clark has gone to the U.N. where she belongs, and New Zealand has been restored of her gentle senses and cavalier tastes. Therefore rise Sir Anand, and join the ancient fellowship of knights!

It's okay to detest paternalism and snobbery, but it is not okay to erase honour or even pomp, which is what knighthoods are. I'm all for pomp without the pomposity, if that makes any sense. There is nothing wrong - or rather, there is everything right - with the whole concept of the gentle knight, and the promotion of chivalrous behaviour. Only people who are trained to think in aggressive slogans, once radical feminists like Helen Clark, would not understand this.
ReplyDeleteThis is great politics by Key. It's real monarchist rollback by the NZ Nats. Nice one! Why didn't Howard do this? I know of at least one ex-Howard prime ministerial adviser now regretting that his boss didn't bring them back.
ReplyDeleteShame the GG couldn't rustle up a morning coat for the trip to the Palace though.
It's shame us Kiwi's are such causal chaps. Neither the PM (John Key) or the GG couldn't muster up a morning suit.
