The Death of Marie Antoinette, October 16th, 1793.
Two-hundred and sixteen years ago to the hour (I hope), the Queen of France, Marie Antoinette, was murdered by Jacobin criminals in the Place de la Revolution.
...in a nation of gallant men, in a nation of men of honour, and of cavaliers! I thought ten thousand swords must have leaped from their scabbards, to avenge even a look that threatened her with insult. But the age of chivalry is gone; that of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded, and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever.
I was just about to post that exact quote! So very true. That poor woman was murdered out of sheer blood lust by some of the most evil men in modern history.

I nearly included that quote in the initial post, but decided to keep it short and sweet.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why the queen was sentenced to death
